Mini mesh GRP grating
Mini mesh GRP grating.
Pedestrian flooring.
Specify mini mesh GRP grating for pedestrian routes, maintenance floors and smaller-opening requirements. Compare 14mm, 22mm, 30mm and 38mm depths against the actual clear span, contact loads and aperture requirement.

Pedestrians, wheels & maintenance
Look at what crosses
the surface.
Mini mesh offers a closer opening pattern than standard mesh. Suitability still depends on the actual aperture, surface finish, route geometry and the people or equipment using it.
Footwear & access
Identify the anticipated footwear and accessibility requirements. Check the surface, joints, thresholds and gradient as part of the whole route.
Wheels & contact loads
Provide wheel diameter, tread width and individual wheel loads where trolleys or equipment are used. Review rolling and local contact effects separately from distributed loading.
Dropped objects
Define the object-retention requirement and work beneath the floor. Confirm the actual clear opening; smaller mesh does not retain every object.
Choose the opening pattern
Compare the function.
Keep the design checks.
Use the surface requirement to shortlist a family, then review the exact product. A mesh-family name is not a substitute for a confirmed aperture or an approved access design.
| Flooring route | Selection focus | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Standard mesh | General open-mesh access flooring | Opening size, drainage and dropped-object requirements |
| Mini mesh | A closer pattern for the walking surface | Clear opening, footwear and wheel contact |
| Micro mesh | A finer opening pattern | Exact geometry, cleaning and structural data |
| Solid top | A covered walking surface | Drainage, joints, supports and removable access |
Technical selection
Set the span.
Check the load case.
VGRP-DS-22 lists mini mesh depths of 14, 22, 30 and 38 mm. Select against the current checked data for the specified panel and support arrangement.
Panel width & support
The reference sheet separates 1000 mm and 1200 mm wide grating and describes unsupported span for unfixed panels. Confirm how those assumptions relate to the proposed floor.
Point loads & UDL
Identify individual contact loads as well as uniformly distributed loads. Equipment wheels, feet and maintenance tasks may govern a different check from general pedestrian loading.
Deflection criterion
The reference load tables use 1% deflection, L/100. Agree the project serviceability limit and any vibration or movement requirements before choosing the panel.
Openings & local support
Review trimmed panels, notches and service penetrations with the supporting frame. Do not apply an intact-panel table to a materially different cut-out arrangement.
Panel weight & handling
Confirm the actual product weight and fabricated dimensions for lifting or removable access. Include handles, fixings and the handling method in the detail.
Ask for the current checked load table and a panel specification that identifies the depth, mesh geometry, finish and resin. Send the proposed arrangement for review →
The finished route
Make the joints
as deliberate as the mesh.
A close mesh surface works within a wider access arrangement. Detail its boundaries, restraint and transitions so the finished floor meets the intended use.
Panel joints & edges
Coordinate gaps and changes in level with the route requirements. Resolve exposed edges, cut panels and interfaces with doors, stairs and adjacent flooring.
Fixing selection
Match the clip or fixing assembly to the mesh depth and support. Confirm access for tightening and inspection, and prevent unintended movement of removable panels.
Drainage & debris
Consider leaves, sediment and process debris that can collect on or beneath the floor. Provide a practical cleaning and inspection route.
Installation information
Identify panel locations and the accepted drawing revision. Follow the specified cutting, edge treatment and fixing instructions for the selected product.
A sample plus the technical record
See the surface.
Verify the requirement.
A representative sample helps assess texture and appearance. The technical record should establish the exact product, design basis and relevant performance evidence.
Surface assessment
Review the finish alongside wet use, contaminants, cleaning and the required slip evidence.
Explore →Material & environment
Identify chemical exposure, fire or specialist requirements and request evidence for the selected resin and product.
Explore →Defined material supply
Use GRP Express to review current mini mesh options once the material requirement is established.

Keep the product identity with the design.
Record the sheet revision, panel specification and support arrangement alongside the accepted drawings.

When the route needs a closed surface
Compare the alternative
before fixing the detail.
Some routes need a covered surface rather than a smaller open mesh. Consider what must be retained, how the route drains and the wheel or footwear contact required.
Carry the same checks into the alternative: panel support, local loads, joints, fixing access and transitions to adjacent surfaces.
Explore solid top grating →Prepare a mini mesh panel enquiry.
Send the required clear opening alongside the intended users, footwear and any wheeled equipment. Keep these surface requirements separate from the structural load and span checks, so the proposed panel can be reviewed against both.
Identify the surface requirement
State whether the closer mesh is intended to address footwear contact, wheel contact or dropped-object requirements. Describe the actual condition rather than requesting a generic “pedestrian” or “heel-safe” product. Ask for a representative sample and confirm the current aperture measurement.
Record each panel and interface
Include finished dimensions, support locations, joints, thresholds, openings and removable access. Mark unknown information for review. Confirm the selected finish, resin and depth with the current product data before ordering or cutting panels.
For structural selection, use the GRP grating load-capacity and span guide. Compare the full range in the grating and flooring selection table.
Questions about mini mesh.
Is mini mesh automatically suitable for all pedestrians?
No. Confirm the aperture, surface and complete route against the intended users and project requirements. Consider footwear, thresholds, gradients and transitions.
Can trolleys run over mini mesh?
Provide the wheel geometry, individual loads and operating conditions. The panel, support and local contact effects need to be reviewed for the proposed equipment.
Does the smaller opening increase the allowable span?
Do not infer span from the opening pattern. Use the applicable checked load and deflection information for the selected panel and supports.
What is the exact clear opening?
Confirm it in the current product specification and sample. Published references can describe pitch and clear opening differently; identify the measurement needed for your project.
What should I send with an enquiry?
Send the layout, clear spans, anticipated users, wheel or point loads and the environment. Include the required opening size, surface performance and installation constraints.
Define the walking route.
Confirm the right panel.
Share your drawings and access requirements. Ask Vital to review the mesh choice, supports, edge details and technical evidence for the package.
