Stadiums, arenas and leisure centres rely on equipment that must remain accessible before, during and after busy operating periods. Ventilation, pumps, lighting services and distribution routes each create different maintenance tasks. Map the staff route and working position, then identify the building, equipment and public-area interfaces that shape the access package.
Vital can coordinate GRP platforms, walkways, stairs, guarding and removable covers for these service areas. Begin with the actual users, access frequency and tools or components carried. A maintenance route, a public circulation area and spectator accommodation have different requirements; keep those uses explicit throughout the design.
Resolve the existing interfaces
Agree the access boundary with the facilities team and venue operator. Event setup, deliveries, security, emergency routes and cleaning can alter how the space is used. Record changes between normal maintenance periods and event days, and keep temporary equipment or stored materials out of the agreed route.
Discuss survey and site capture →The inputs that shape the access system.
Roof plant, service corridor, trench opening or pool equipment; identify the working position.
Authorised staff, contractors, event-day restrictions and public-area separation.
Loads, spans, supports, substrate, fixings, moisture and cleaning conditions.
Event calendar, isolation windows, handling routes, inspection and maintenance records.
Coordinate the installation with the operator.
Plan the work and the handover
Use the venue calendar to plan surveys, fabrication and installation. Agree the work boundary, temporary protection and return-to-use checks with the operator. Include inspection information and a clear process for reviewing later plant, event-layout or access changes.
Discuss design and fabrication information →Requirements for this application
Sports-ground management guidance supports the venue context, while structural and machinery-access requirements depend on the individual application. The access package should align with the venue’s fire, emergency and operational arrangements; it is not a generic approval for spectator infrastructure.
Review the specification inputs →Connect the access with venue requirements.
Facility guidance
SGSA structures and installations guidance →. Connect the access package with venue inspection and maintenance planning. Confirm the requirements for the specific facility and use.
Maintenance and isolation
HSE maintenance guidance → supports planning safe interventions. Agree isolation, stored-energy controls and protection of people nearby before work begins.
Match the evidence to the installed arrangement.
Access and structure
Where the primary purpose is access to machinery, ISO 14122-2 → provides a relevant reference for platforms and walkways. Agree the applicable requirements and owner specification.
Materials and exposure
Confirm the selected profile, grating, resin and fixing evidence for the duty. A profile specification does not establish the capacity of a complete platform.
Request technical assurance →Retain or replace
Compare GRP and steel on the same span, loads, interfaces, exposure and installed scope. Include the condition and maintenance needs of retained work.
Explore refurbishment →Select the connected access components.
Specify the panel, frame, guarding and connections together. Match span, loading and exposure to the selected assembly rather than choosing from panel thickness alone.
Turn the requirement into a useful enquiry.
Use the design-input guide to record dimensions, duty, supports and operating constraints. Keep your notes with the latest drawings and send the information to Kev or Ashleigh for support.
Bring the available information
Include plans, sections, photographs, equipment clearances and the installation window. Mark unknown inputs for discussion.
The brief supports engineering review; it does not calculate or approve the installed structure.
