GRP project FAQs

Clear answers.
A useful next step.

Find practical answers about specifying GRP access systems, preparing an enquiry, coordinating delivery and obtaining the right project records.

Start with your project.

Choosing a route

Where should I start if I know the application but not the product?

Describe the task, the people or equipment needing access and the surrounding environment. Use Solutions to explore the requirement, then follow the relevant product and technical guidance. A site photograph or marked-up plan can help explain the problem.

Can Vital support design, supply and installation?

Tell us which parts of the package you need: survey or design support, fabrication, supply, installation and handover. The agreed proposal defines the actual scope, responsibilities and deliverables for your project.

Can I ask for standard GRP materials?

Use GRP Express to explore standard material purchasing. For a coordinated access system or a project with design and site interfaces, send the requirement to Vital.

Preparing an enquiry

What information should I send?

Provide the intended use, approximate dimensions, loads where known, support or substrate information, environment and delivery constraints. Include plans, sections and site photographs where available. Use a project enquiry brief to organise the information.

Can I enquire before every detail is confirmed?

Yes. Mark unknowns clearly and state the project stage. Early information can establish what needs to be surveyed, coordinated or reviewed before the package can be developed.

Can I attach drawings or supporting documents?

Use Send your drawings and the attachment controls available on the enquiry form. Keep the project reference and drawing revisions clear. For large files or formats the form does not accept, contact the team to agree a transfer route.

Technical questions need the right evidence.

Does panel thickness tell me the safe span?

Panel thickness is one input. Loading, deflection criteria, support conditions, cut-outs, restraint and the complete arrangement also matter. Follow load and span guidance in the Engineering Centre and provide the proposed assembly for review.

Are 1.5, 2.5 and 5.0 kN/m² interchangeable duty choices?

They are different nominal design-duty inputs. The required duty comes from the intended use and project requirements; selecting a value does not approve the floor. Point loads, construction loads, spans and support conditions still need review. See RiserDeck® guidance.

Does GRP automatically suit every corrosive environment?

The chemical, concentration, temperature, exposure and proposed resin system need to be considered together. Use the chemical-resistance reference to frame your enquiry and seek confirmation for the actual service conditions.

Where can I find fire or slip evidence?

The Assurance Centre distinguishes company credentials from product evidence. Match the exact product and installation conditions to the applicable report; historical or indicative records should not be treated as universal product approval.

Can a requirement builder issue an engineering approval?

A requirement brief records the information provided and highlights matters for review. It does not replace project design, confirm structural capacity or authorise installation.

From planning to handover.

Site & programme

What determines delivery timing?

The agreed scope, surveys, design information, approvals, fabrication requirements and site arrangements affect the programme. State the required delivery and installation dates when enquiring, together with any access or shutdown constraints.

Can services or cut-outs change after design approval?

Changes should be reviewed before cutting, drilling or altering the assembly. Service openings may affect supports, restraint and access. Record the revised requirement and obtain the appropriate approval before work proceeds.

Do toolbox talks replace RAMS?

No. A toolbox talk supports a focused briefing. The approved design, site-specific risk assessments and method statements, competence and supervision remain necessary for the work. See Toolbox Talks.

Records & support

How should I keep a downloadable brief?

Save a project copy on your device and retain the project reference and date. Check that your entries remain in the saved file before sharing it. Keep drawings alongside the brief and update both when the requirement changes.

Which documents belong in handover?

Agree the required records within the project scope: relevant drawings, permitted use, product information, inspection and installation records, and maintenance or alteration guidance. The required package depends on the assembly and appointment.

Where do I request company policies or procurement evidence?

Use Policies & controlled documents and provide the tender reference and document schedule so the relevant controlled records can be identified.

Bring your requirement to Vital.

Technical project enquiry

Send the drawings.Show us the constraint.

Share whatever is available. A finished specification is not required; photographs, marked-up PDFs and partial dimensions can all help us identify the next responsible step.
