The original briefing documents are retained unchanged. They support a site briefing and should be used alongside the applicable risk assessment, method statement and current project instructions.

A focused briefing for the work ahead.

GRP cutting & services

Discuss the approved service positions, support arrangement, cutting method, dust controls and the protection of people around the work area. Changes to supports or openings need review before alteration.

Handling panels & components

Plan the route, team, equipment and storage arrangement. Consider size, weight, edges, restricted access and changing conditions rather than relying on a single lifting rule.

Installation & handover

Confirm the approved information, readiness of the opening, inspection points and release arrangements. Record anything that prevents the work being completed as planned.

Cutting GRP around services.

Briefing focus · services & openings

Confirm the detail before the cut.

Vital’s internal GRP cutting talk covers service coordination, protection of the work area, dust control and escalation of clashes. Use a briefing to check that the team has the approved revision and understands the limits of the work.

  • Confirm opening positions, remaining support and restraint against the approved information.
  • Discuss the task-specific cutting method, equipment, extraction and protective measures.
  • Plan how panels and offcuts will be supported, handled and removed.
  • Identify how the work area and any exposed opening will be protected.
  • Stop and raise unexpected services, damaged components or proposed changes before proceeding.

Project RAMS and the responsible designer determine the actual controls and permissible alterations.

Plan the handling task.

Look at the load, route and conditions.

Panel dimensions, grip, edges, obstructions and the working position can make a handling task difficult even where the material is relatively light. Discuss storage, delivery unloading, movement to the workface and the equipment needed before handling begins.

HSE guidance follows a practical sequence: avoid hazardous manual handling where reasonably practicable, assess unavoidable tasks and reduce the risks.

Dust controls

Discuss the material and task-specific exposure controls. Avoid dry sweeping practices that unnecessarily put settled dust back into the air. HSE cleaning and dust guidance →

Training & competence

A briefing reinforces the work plan; it does not replace training, competence, supervision or authorisation for specialist tasks. Vital training and competence →

Request a talk for your team.

Give the briefing a clear purpose.

Tell us the project, audience, GRP system and activity being planned. Identify the relevant drawing revision and the practical issue the team needs to understand. Mention GRP cutting for services or manual handling if requesting those topics.

Talks and internal records can be identified for review against the actual work. This page provides public briefing themes; it is not the complete internal procedure or a site-specific method statement.

Record what the team needs to act on.

Capture the topic, date, attendees, questions and unresolved actions using your site briefing process. Agree who will resolve each issue and what must be confirmed before the affected work proceeds.
