GRP Access for Justice & Secure Estates

Maintain the services.
Respect the secure boundary.

GRP plant platforms, maintenance routes and service covers for secure estates, coordinated with estate access controls and the facilities team.

Choose the access area.

Illustrative concept, not a project photograph or approved design. Select a numbered area or use the descriptions below.
1

Secure plant access

Provide defined maintenance positions around ventilation, pumps and building services. Agree access restrictions, working clearances and the plant replacement route with the estate team.

2

Service covers

Coordinate access to ducts and trenches with the estate’s requirements for restraint and removal. Confirm the loading and the approved method for controlling loose components during maintenance.

3

Controlled routes

Connect plant areas without creating unintended access to restricted locations. Set out guarding, gates and interfaces against the estate’s own requirements.

Build the brief around the working task.

In a secure estate, the practical installation constraints are part of the design brief. Delivery screening, escorted access, material storage and the control of removable components can affect how a platform is fabricated and installed. Start with the estate’s permitted working arrangements and the equipment that must remain available.

Start with the site information

Bring plans, photographs and the equipment supplier’s maintenance clearances. Identify the working position, the route used to reach it and the supporting structure. Vital can help coordinate survey, design information, fabrication and installation around that brief.

Survey and site capture →

Resolve the interfaces before fabrication.

Information control

Keep sensitive layouts, locations and operational details within the project’s controlled information process.

Installation logistics

Agree delivery sizes, tool controls, escorts, storage and working hours before detailing the package.

Removable components

Define authorised removal, restraint and inspection requirements for covers and access panels.

Specify the complete load path.

Make the loading explicit

Record distributed loading, point loads, clear spans and the required deflection criterion. Include tools, replacement components and any temporary construction use. Guarding, access stairs and removable panels belong in the same coordinated package.

Check the support and fixing detail

Identify the substrate, bearing arrangement and fixing selection. Where anchor testing is required, agree the test plan and acceptance criteria with the responsible designer. Panel thickness alone does not establish the installed capacity.

Request the supporting information →

Plan the installation and the next maintenance visit.

Issue survey and fabrication information through the agreed estate process. Plan short, controlled work stages where access or plant availability is restricted. Handover should explain the installed components and inspection regime without exposing operational information in public material.

What should the handover retain?

Keep the agreed drawings, component identification, permitted use, inspection information and maintenance instructions together. Record how future alterations to services, equipment or supports will be reviewed before work starts.

Replacement and refurbishment →

Connect the specification with the evidence.

Standards and site requirements

Where the main purpose is access to machinery, ISO 14122-2 is a relevant reference for working platforms and walkways. Confirm its applicability alongside the project specification.

Define the package boundary

Any anti-climb, tamper-resistance or security performance must be specified and evidenced for the complete arrangement. This page makes no generic security rating claim.

Send the requirement.
Start the engineering review.

Use the requirement builder to record the available dimensions, loads, supports and site constraints. Download or save the brief for your project records, then send it with drawings to Kev or Ashleigh for support.

Have drawings already?

Send the latest revision with photographs and the scope you need: design, supply, fabrication or installation.

Send your drawings →

Prepare a useful project pack

Include the access area, task, outline geometry, operating conditions and installation window. Mark unknown inputs so they can be resolved in review.

Build and save your requirement →

The brief records requirements; it does not calculate or approve the structure.
