GRP Access for Justice & Secure Estates →

GRP Secure-Estate Plantroom Access

Plantroom access.
Built around controlled maintenance.

GRP plantroom platforms and stepovers for secure estates. Coordinate service access, fixing details and controlled installation with Vital.

Choose the access area.

Illustrative concept, not a project photograph or approved design. Select a numbered area or use the descriptions below.
1

Plant service platforms

Provide standing space at filters, controls and inspection positions. Include the open state of covers and cabinets and the space needed to remove replacement parts without obstructing the approach.

Explore the system →
2

Stairs and service landings

Plan the approach around authorised maintenance activity and carried tools. Confirm clear landings, doors and escape routes with the building team before the layout is fixed.

3

Pipe and duct stepovers

Cross services with independent supports and adequate clearance for future repairs. Keep removable ductwork, valves and isolation points accessible beneath and beside the crossing.

Choose the system around the duty.

GRP grating and flooring

Select the surface, openings and resin system for the cleaning regime and working environment. Confirm the span and point-load requirements for each deck zone.

Build the brief around the working task.

Plant maintenance on a secure estate combines ordinary mechanical tasks with specific access, delivery and record-control requirements. Start with the service task and equipment layout, then agree how the assembly will be brought in, installed and inspected. The result should give authorised maintainers a usable working position without creating unnecessary loose components or obstructing essential plant access. Share detailed site information through the operator’s accepted project channel.

Start with the site information

Bring plans, photographs and the equipment supplier’s maintenance clearances. Identify the working position, the route used to reach it and the supporting structure. Vital can help coordinate survey, design information, fabrication and installation around that brief.

Survey and site capture →

Resolve the interfaces before fabrication.

Controlled components

Agree the operator’s requirements for fixings, removable panels and component identification. Security requirements must be specified for the intended location rather than assumed from material choice.

Restricted delivery routes

Measure doors, corridors and handling positions before choosing assembly sizes. Where access is limited, plan modular fabrication around the actual delivery and installation method.

Maintenance continuity

Identify which plant and routes must remain available during installation. Agree temporary arrangements and local work windows with the estate team.

Specify the complete load path.

Make the loading explicit

State personnel, tools and replacement equipment at the working position. Define temporary laydown and handling loads separately, with clear spans and serviceability requirements. Include any restrictions on standing or storing equipment outside the designated deck area.

Review the design requirements →

Check the support and fixing detail

Check the retained slab or structural frame and locate embedded services before anchors are selected. Coordinate the fixing detail with the operator’s component-control requirements and the designer’s need for inspection, installation verification and future replacement.

Request the supporting information →

Plan the installation and the next maintenance visit.

Agree permissions, supervision, delivery checks and installation records before mobilisation. Prefabricate to the surveyed access envelope and retain component identification through assembly. At handover, verify service clearances, panel restraint and the maintenance instructions required by the receiving estate team.

CAD, structural design and BIM →

What should the handover retain?

Keep the agreed drawings, component identification, permitted use, inspection information and maintenance instructions together. Record how future alterations to services, equipment or supports will be reviewed before work starts.

Replacement and refurbishment →

Connect the specification with the evidence.

Standards and site requirements

Agree the estate operator’s access and material specification before selecting the assembly. Apply the relevant structural, guarding and serviceability requirements to the intended users and task. BS EN ISO 14122 may be relevant to permanent machinery access; it does not establish suitability for every building circulation route. Coordinate access with the operator’s permit, maintenance and security procedures.

Define the package boundary

The access assembly is specified for authorised maintenance. It does not establish security, anti-ligature, anti-climb or custodial suitability without a defined brief and appropriate evidence for the complete arrangement.

Questions to resolve before ordering.

Can panels be removable for plant replacement?

Yes where the removal, component control, temporary protection and reinstatement method are accepted within the design and estate procedures.

Can the system fit through existing doors?

Survey the delivery route and agree module sizes, weight and assembly space before fabrication.

Should sensitive estate drawings appear on the public page?

No. Public guidance can describe the requirement; detailed layouts should use the accepted project information route.

Send the requirement.
Start the engineering review.

Use the requirement builder to record the available dimensions, loads, supports and site constraints. Download or save the brief for your project records, then send it with drawings to Kev or Ashleigh for support.

Have drawings already?

Send the latest revision with photographs and the scope you need: design, supply, fabrication or installation.
