GRP Access for Stadiums, Arenas & Leisure →
GRP Stadium & Arena Roof Plant Access
Reach the venue plant.
Keep the route protected.
GRP roof walkways and maintenance platforms for stadiums and arenas. Coordinate plant access, roof supports and work around event operations.

Follow the route from roof entry to the service position.
Large venues can have widely spaced ventilation units and technical equipment above roofs or within roof structures. Start with the authorised access point and map the full journey to each service position. Include level changes, headroom, obstructions and room to open equipment panels rather than stopping the brief at the walkway length.
Establish the roof or structural support arrangement with the responsible designer. Confirm local reactions, waterproofing interfaces, frame restraint and wind exposure. Where existing steelwork is retained, survey its condition and connection locations; do not infer spare capacity from the size of a visible beam.
Resolve the existing interfaces
Identify rooflights, fragile surfaces and open edges, and coordinate the work-at-height arrangements with the venue. Maintenance above occupied or event areas requires its own planning, including exclusion zones, dropped-object controls and timing. Permanent access helps define the route but does not remove these operating responsibilities.
Discuss survey and site capture →The inputs that shape the access system.
Entry point, route length, levels, headroom and plant service clearances.
Roof build-up, retained steelwork, local reactions, connections and waterproofing.
Users, carried tools, concentrated loads, wind, uplift and guarding duty.
Occupied areas below, event windows, lifting routes and emergency arrangements.
Coordinate the installation with the operator.
Plan the work and the handover
Agree the installation period and lifting plan around the venue’s operating calendar. Protect the roof and retained structure during handling. Handover should record support positions, inspections and restrictions on moving, extending or attaching additional equipment to the access system.
Discuss design and fabrication information →Requirements for this application
Use HSE roof-work guidance alongside the roof designer’s requirements and the venue’s operating controls. Where the route primarily serves machinery, assess the relevant ISO 14122 provisions. Roof access is separate from suspended event rigging or crowd-support structures.
Review the specification inputs →Connect the access with venue requirements.
Facility guidance
SGSA structures and installations guidance →. Connect the access package with venue inspection and maintenance planning. Confirm the requirements for the specific facility and use.
Maintenance and isolation
HSE maintenance guidance → supports planning safe interventions. Agree isolation, stored-energy controls and protection of people nearby before work begins.
Match the evidence to the installed arrangement.
Access and structure
Where the primary purpose is access to machinery, ISO 14122-2 → provides a relevant reference for platforms and walkways. Agree the applicable requirements and owner specification.
Materials and exposure
Confirm the selected profile, grating, resin and fixing evidence for the duty. A profile specification does not establish the capacity of a complete platform.
Request technical assurance →Retain or replace
Compare GRP and steel on the same span, loads, interfaces, exposure and installed scope. Include the condition and maintenance needs of retained work.
Explore refurbishment →Review the roof and the plant together.
HSE roof-work guidance → · Rooftop access systems →
Identify fragile surfaces and rooflights before choosing the route. Coordinate the access system with the roof specialist and the building-specific work-at-height arrangements.
Select the connected access components.
Specify the panel, frame, guarding and connections together. Match span, loading and exposure to the selected assembly rather than choosing from panel thickness alone.
Turn the requirement into a useful enquiry.
Use the design-input guide to record dimensions, duty, supports and operating constraints. Keep your notes with the latest drawings and send the information to Kev or Ashleigh for support.
Bring the available information
Include plans, sections, photographs, equipment clearances and the installation window. Mark unknown inputs for discussion.
The brief supports engineering review; it does not calculate or approve the installed structure.
