01 · Challenge

Connect the retaining wall to the access route.

The Hague Bar project required access from a new retaining-wall arrangement as part of wider landslip repair works. The access needed to suit the rail environment, provide reliable foot contact and be practical for the client’s team to install.

Vital GRP carried out a site survey with Network Rail and reviewed the available access options before four modular GRP step assemblies were selected for direct supply.

02 · Specification

Four modular step assemblies.

Survey-led layout

The project survey connected the step geometry and interfaces to the actual retaining-wall condition.

Modular construction

Four lightweight assemblies could be moved and positioned without a heavy steel installation strategy.

Trackside visibility

Open-mesh treads and contrasting yellow nosings created a clearly defined climbing surface.

03 · Delivery

Prepared for the Network Rail installation team.

Vital GRP supplied the four modular access-step assemblies directly to Network Rail. Their lightweight format reduced manual-handling demand and enabled the client’s own team to complete the installation without specialist GRP installers or heavy lifting equipment.

04 · Outcome

A fitted route across the change in level.

The retaining-wall works gained four durable, slip-resistant GRP access points while Network Rail retained direct control of the installation programme.

Standards and assurance: Project survey, client-approved modular arrangement and project-specific rail access requirements.
