Pultruded GRP angle sections
GRP angle sections.
Design the connection.
Equal and unequal GRP angles for support details, framing and fabricated assemblies. Select the leg dimensions and material alongside the loads, restraint and joint arrangement.

Reference section range
Two legs.
A defined support detail.
The VGRP-DS-36 range sheet lists these angle dimensions. Use them to identify a section for review; confirm the current designation, tolerances, resin and availability before ordering.
| Leg A | Leg B | Thickness |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | 25 | 3 |
| 50 | 50 | 6 |
| 60 | 60 | 8 |
| 75 | 50 | 8 |
| 75 | 75 | 4 |
| 75 | 75 | 10 |
| 76 | 76 | 9.35 |
| 100 | 75 | 8 |
| 100 | 100 | 8 |
| 100 | 100 | 10 |
| 125 | 75 | 10 |
The reference lists grey profiles and weights for 6 m lengths. Confirm the supplied length and cutting schedule. External dimensions alone do not establish stiffness, connection resistance or the capacity of a support.
Use the section in its actual orientation
Follow the load.
Check each interface.
An angle can form part of a bearing ledge, edge support or fabricated frame detail. Its performance depends on how force enters each leg and leaves through the connections.
Bearing & support
Define the supported element, contact area and reactions. Review local leg behaviour and the position of the load relative to the fixing line.
Member action
Identify the span, orientation and restraint. Include bending, shear, deflection and stability checks appropriate to the detail.
Connection action
Define the fastener arrangement and force transfer. Check the profile around holes and the connected material as well as the fasteners.
For riser flooring, coordinate the angle with panel bearing, service penetrations and the supporting substrate. For longer framing members, compare channels and other section families within the agreed design.
Detail before fabrication
Make the joint
part of the specification.
Provide the connection sketch with the member schedule. A bolt diameter or an angle size on its own leaves important parts of the load path unresolved.
Holes & fasteners
Set out hole diameters, positions, spacing and edge distances in the accepted detail. Include washers, access for assembly and the specified tightening procedure.
Connected surfaces
Check fit, bearing contact and any packers or interfaces. Resolve uneven substrate and installation tolerances without assuming the profile will conform.
Anchorage
Where the angle fixes to concrete, masonry or another asset, establish the substrate and anchor design. Agree any required site investigation or testing.
Material & exposure
Specify the resin and grade for the environment. Include chemical exposure, temperature and any metallic connection components in the review.
Cutting & protection
Agree cutting, drilling and any required treatment of exposed surfaces. Keep member identification and drawing revision with the fabrication schedule.

The complete structure
Specify the member.
Coordinate the assembly.
The installed structure brings several section types together. A product photograph explains the shape; the project drawings establish where and how that section works.
Coordinate decking, bracing, guarding and the supporting asset. Confirm installation access and whether the assembly is delivered complete or in sections.
Material & design information
Confirm the grade.
Record the design basis.
Request section properties and the relevant material evidence for the actual profile. Identify the design method and project criteria before using a load table.
Profile specification
The BS EN 13706 series covers pultruded profile designation, testing and requirements. Confirm the selected product grade and supporting declaration.
Section properties
Request the properties for the chosen dimensions and axes, including the data needed for the design checks. Do not transfer a steel-section assumption to a GRP angle.
Project evidence
Record the loads, restraints, connections and environmental assumptions with the calculation and drawings. A profile standard does not certify the complete assembly.

Send the detail with the schedule.
Include member lengths, quantities, holes, connected materials and the required delivery format.

For material supply against an agreed specification, explore GRP Express. For a coordinated assembly, send the design information to Vital.
Questions about GRP angles.
Are equal and unequal angles available?
The range reference includes both. Confirm the selected dimensions and availability for the project.
Can an angle support riser grating?
It can form part of a designed support detail. Confirm bearing, loads, fasteners and the supporting substrate for the actual opening.
Can I replace a steel angle with GRP at the same size?
External size alone is not a valid substitution basis. Review material properties, stiffness, member behaviour, connections and exposure.
Do you need the hole positions before manufacture?
Include the accepted connection layout and drawing revision in the fabrication schedule. Coordinate holes with the design and assembly requirements.
Does the catalogue size give a load capacity?
No. Capacity depends on the material, orientation, loading, span, restraint and connections. Request project-specific design information.
Resolve the support.
Start with the connection.
Send the section schedule and connection sketch. Ask Vital to review the member, joint and fabrication requirements.
