How-To 02 · Service coordination
Plan service penetrations in GRP riser flooring
Coordinate the service opening, supporting frame and cutting information before work starts.
Episode transcript
Coordinate first. Cut once.
RiserDeck® GRP riser flooring is planned around the complete opening, its supports and every service penetration.
Start with the current approved drawing and service information. Confirm the pipe, duct or containment size, including insulation, lagging, tolerances and any required fire-stopping zone. Check the required finished floor level and access for installation and future maintenance.
Now map the perimeter supports, internal channels, panel joints and grating orientation. Every new edge must retain the bearing and support required by the approved design. Never assume the grating alone can bridge an enlarged or relocated opening.
Check the material remaining between adjacent penetrations and between an opening and the panel edge. Under Vital's current guidance, retain at least one complete grating square, or two structural bars, unless the approved project design requires more.
If the service crosses a perimeter or internal support, stop. Do not cut, move or omit that support on site. Coordinate a revised service position or an engineered trimming arrangement and have the change approved before work continues.
Record the final opening size, position, panel reference and supporting arrangement. Give the installer a clear marked-up drawing, cutting sequence and inspection requirement. The drawing, RAMS and site setting-out must all agree.
Coordinate first and cut once. Correct planning protects the floor, simplifies installation and leaves a service opening that can be inspected and maintained. For project-specific support, speak to Vital GRP.
