GRP Sortation Maintenance Platforms
Reach the service point.
Leave room to work.
GRP maintenance platforms for parcel sortation and fulfilment equipment. Coordinate working positions, access stairs, removal space and retained supports.

Design around the component being maintained.
Sortation equipment often has service points at different levels and along several sides. Identify the panels, drives, sensors and components that the maintenance team must reach. Record whether the task is inspection, adjustment or component replacement, because each needs a different working space and handling arrangement.
Position the deck to support the task without obstructing service doors, ventilation or lifting access. Record the number of people, tools and replacement parts expected at the working position. Concentrated loads and temporary handling demands need their own review; a nominal pedestrian duty does not define a component-handling platform.
Resolve the existing interfaces
Coordinate the access structure with machinery guards and the equipment integrator. A platform does not replace isolation or make access to moving machinery acceptable. Where removable deck or guarding sections are needed for replacement, define the temporary protection, controlled removal and reinstatement process.
Discuss survey and site capture →The inputs that shape the access system.
Panel swing, reach positions, withdrawal distances and space for maintenance tools.
Users, distributed load, local equipment loads, span, deflection and frame stability.
Surveyed slab, structural supports, machine movement, anchors and nearby services.
Isolation boundaries, work below the platform, segregation and return-to-service checks.
Coordinate the installation with the operator.
Plan the work and the handover
Agree survey access with the maintenance team and machine supplier. Fabricate modules to suit the building entry and handling route, then plan installation during the agreed equipment stop. Record inspected connections, approved changes and maintenance information before the platform is brought into use.
Discuss design and fabrication information →Requirements for this application
Define permanent machinery access using the applicable ISO 14122 provisions and the equipment supplier’s requirements. Keep machine safety, structural support and access design responsibilities explicit. Check actual material exposure, temperature and cleaning methods rather than assuming all GRP grades are interchangeable.
Review the specification inputs →Connect access with the operating controls.
Warehouse operations
HSE warehousing guidance →. Use the site risk assessment to coordinate pedestrian access, workplace transport and maintenance activities.
Maintenance and isolation
HSE maintenance guidance → supports planning safe interventions. Agree isolation, stored-energy controls and protection of people nearby before work begins.
Match the evidence to the installed arrangement.
Access and structure
Where the primary purpose is access to machinery, ISO 14122-2 → provides a relevant reference for platforms and walkways. Agree the applicable requirements and owner specification.
Materials and exposure
Confirm the selected profile, grating, resin and fixing evidence for the duty. A profile specification does not establish the capacity of a complete platform.
Request technical assurance →Retain or replace
Compare GRP and steel on the same span, loads, interfaces, exposure and installed scope. Include the condition and maintenance needs of retained work.
Survey, design and installation support →Select the connected access components.
Specify the panel, frame, guarding and connections together. Match span, loading and exposure to the selected assembly rather than choosing from panel thickness alone.
Turn the requirement into a useful enquiry.
Record dimensions, duty, supports and operating constraints using the design-input guide. Keep these notes with your latest drawings, then send the available information to Kev or Ashleigh for support.
Bring the available information
Include plans, sections, photographs, equipment clearances and the installation window. Mark unknown inputs for discussion.
The brief supports engineering review; it does not calculate or approve the installed structure.
