Keep services and maintenance positions coordinated.

Hospital service risers carry networks supporting occupied departments. Plan standing positions for inspection and access to valves, dampers and equipment before the floor layout is fixed. Identify which components may need replacement and how they can be reached without unnecessary removal of adjacent panels.

Coordinate panel spans, perimeter supports, intermediate members and restraint with the services layout. Record the 1.5, 2.5 or 5.0 kN/m² design-duty input and any concentrated or construction-stage loads. The actual panel, supports and fixings must be checked as an assembly for the agreed duty.

Resolve the existing interfaces

Keep fire-stopping and compartmentation interfaces explicit: GRP flooring is not itself a compartment seal. Confirm responsibility for fire-stopping design and inspection. Record the accepted service revision, and define how future penetrations or lift-out changes are referred for review before alteration.

The inputs that shape the access system.

Opening and supports

Survey geometry, substrate, support members, anchor selection and required tests.

Service layout

Pipes, ducts, insulation, valves, dampers and access clearances.

Duty and restraint

Distributed and point loads, temporary use, hold-down and removable zones.

Hospital interfaces

Service continuity, fire-stopping ownership, inspection and future change control.

Coordinate the installation with the operator.

Plan the work and the handover

Agree the service coordination and installation sequence with the estates and construction teams. Confirm opening dimensions before fabrication, inspect restraint and cut-outs, and hand over the panel layout with permitted use and alteration requirements.

Requirements for this application

Use the RiserDeck® specification and installation guidance with the building-services and structural designs. Confirm substrate suitability, fixing selection and any pull-test requirement for the supporting construction.

Review the specification inputs →

Connect the design with estate requirements.

Estate guidance

NHS Health Technical Memoranda →. Identify the subject-specific guidance relevant to the hospital asset with the estates team. These documents do not provide generic product certification.

Maintenance and isolation

HSE maintenance guidance → covers planning and safe maintenance. Coordinate equipment isolation and work controls with the operator before installation or servicing.

Match the evidence to the installed arrangement.

Access and structure

Where the primary purpose is access to machinery, ISO 14122-2 → provides a relevant reference for platforms and walkways. Agree the applicable requirements and owner specification.

Materials and exposure

Confirm the selected profile, grating, resin and fixing evidence for the duty. A profile specification does not establish the capacity of a complete platform.

Request technical assurance →

Retain or replace

Compare GRP and steel on the same span, loads, interfaces, exposure and installed scope. Include the condition and maintenance needs of retained work.

Select the connected access components.

Specify the panel, frame, guarding and connections together. Match span, loading and exposure to the selected assembly rather than choosing from panel thickness alone.

Turn the requirement into a useful enquiry.

Use the design-input guide to record dimensions, duty, supports and operating constraints. Keep your notes with the latest drawings and send the information to Kev or Ashleigh for support.

Bring the available information

Include plans, sections, photographs, equipment clearances and the installation window. Mark unknown inputs for discussion.
