GRP Access for Residential & Hospitality Buildings

Plan the building services.
Protect long-term access.

RiserDeck® flooring, rooftop walkways and maintenance platforms for residential, hotel and student accommodation projects, from construction coordination to occupied-building upkeep.

Choose the access area.

Illustrative concept, not a project photograph or approved design. Select a numbered area or use the descriptions below.
1

Service risers

Coordinate RiserDeck® panels, supports and access zones with service penetrations. Record the agreed opening, maintenance load and removable sections before fabrication.

2

Rooftop equipment

Provide a route to ventilation and other roof plant while preserving rooflights, drainage and membrane details. Coordinate support and fixing selection with the roof structure.

3

Occupied-building retrofit

Survey existing access and identify what must remain available during replacement. Plan handling routes, working hours and separation from residents, guests and staff.

Build the brief around the working task.

Residential and hospitality buildings combine repeated service layouts with local changes in structure, plant and fit-out. Treat each riser and roof zone as an actual opening or route, not a copied detail. The design needs to accommodate the construction sequence and the maintenance team who will use it after occupation.

Start with the site information

Bring plans, photographs and the equipment supplier’s maintenance clearances. Identify the working position, the route used to reach it and the supporting structure. Vital can help coordinate survey, design information, fabrication and installation around that brief.

Resolve the interfaces before fabrication.

Repeated layouts

Check actual dimensions and service revisions; typical floors may contain different openings or obstructions.

Building interfaces

Coordinate the access package with fire strategy, compartmentation and the responsible designers.

Occupation

Agree noise, delivery routes, temporary protection and access restrictions with building management.

Specify the complete load path.

Make the loading explicit

Record distributed loading, point loads, clear spans and the required deflection criterion. Include tools, replacement components and any temporary construction use. Guarding, access stairs and removable panels belong in the same coordinated package.

Check the support and fixing detail

Identify the substrate, bearing arrangement and fixing selection. Where anchor testing is required, agree the test plan and acceptance criteria with the responsible designer. Panel thickness alone does not establish the installed capacity.

Request the supporting information →

Plan the installation and the next maintenance visit.

Bring service coordination and access requirements together before manufacture. For refurbishment, agree a phased sequence with the facilities team. Retain panel identification, permitted use and instructions for reviewing future service alterations.

What should the handover retain?

Keep the agreed drawings, component identification, permitted use, inspection information and maintenance instructions together. Record how future alterations to services, equipment or supports will be reviewed before work starts.

Replacement and refurbishment →

Connect the specification with the evidence.

Standards and site requirements

Where the main purpose is access to machinery, ISO 14122-2 is a relevant reference for working platforms and walkways. Confirm its applicability alongside the project specification.

Define the package boundary

GRP riser flooring and maintenance access do not themselves establish fire compartmentation or public circulation compliance. Those interfaces remain part of the building design.

Send the requirement.
Start the engineering review.

Record the available dimensions, loads, supports and site constraints using the design-input guide. Keep your notes with the latest drawings, then send the project information to Kev or Ashleigh for support.

Have drawings already?

Send the latest revision with photographs and the scope you need: design, supply, fabrication or installation.

Prepare a useful project pack

Include the access area, task, outline geometry, operating conditions and installation window. Mark unknown inputs so they can be resolved in review.

The brief records requirements; it does not calculate or approve the structure.
