PROJECT CASE STUDY · WATER AND WASTEWATER

GRP platform and stair access at Old Leake STW

Vital GRP has completed a GRP platform installation for Kier at Old Leake sewage treatment works near Boston. The finished access arrangement brings together a raised working deck, a stair approach, handrails and kick plates beside the Anglian Water treatment plant.

Access beside the treatment plant

The platform sits above ground level next to the treatment equipment. Access therefore needed to be considered as a connected arrangement: the route up the stairs, the space at deck level, the supporting structure below and the protection around the platform edges.

Project correspondence records coordination of the proposed design drawing with Kier and the structural report with Anglian Water. Planning also covered site lifting arrangements before installation.

The coordination challenge

The stair route had to connect ground level to the raised deck beside the plant. The completed photographs show how the support legs and cross-bracing fit below that level, while the handrails and kick plates define the platform perimeter.

The installed solution

  • Raised platform with green open-mesh decking
  • Stair approach with green treads and yellow step edges
  • Grey uprights with yellow handrails and midrails
  • Yellow kick plates around the deck perimeter
  • Supporting legs and cross-bracing beneath the platform

Technical assurance

The Old Leake project record links the completed installation to the drawing and structural-report coordination that preceded it. The completion photographs provide a visual record of the platform, stair approach, support structure and edge protection.

The project sign-off form records the platform, handrails and kick plates as installed. The original completion record is retained internally; personal details and signatures are not reproduced here.

PROJECT DELIVERY

Platform installation complete

The completed arrangement provides a stair-served working level beside the treatment plant, with handrails and kick plates installed around the platform.

Outcome

Old Leake now has a connected access arrangement from ground level to the raised platform. The project brings the deck, stairs, supports and guarding together in one installed system, with the completion record and photographs retained against project P1729.
