01 · Challenge
Connect access around dense plant.
Dornan Engineering appointed Vital GRP to supply and install GRP access solutions across ACP, generator and PEB equipment zones at the WXT1A data-centre project. The scope developed into a coordinated set of access steps, stair platforms, platform ramps and later HVAC access equipment.
The installation record shows why plant access must be engineered as a connected system. Door thresholds, falls in ground level, maintenance clearances, handrail continuity and the route between work areas all affected the geometry. Some generator platforms were deliberately treated as site-adjusted fabrications so the final arrangement could respond to the built condition.

02 · Specification
Platforms, ramps, steps and guarding as one route.
Coordinated geometry
Survey information and fabrication drawings were used to set platform depths, support positions, steps, ramps and handrail returns around live plant interfaces.
Engineered structure
The design scope included checks of GRP members and GRP-to-GRP connections, supported by a structural calculation package.
Installation planning
Materials were delivered in flat-packed loads, moved to controlled preparation areas and assembled in a defined sequence close to each installation zone.

03 · Delivery
Plan the assemblies around the installation zones.
Project RAMS covered supply and installation across ACP, generator and PEB areas, with a coordinated programme across the equipment zones. The documented deliverables included fabrication drawings, 3D models, structural calculations, installation and O&M information. The resulting access systems create clear, guarded routes to multiple plant doors and maintenance points within a heavily constrained environment.

04 · Outcome
Consistent access across different plant interfaces.
A repeatable GRP access strategy was adapted to many different plant interfaces without losing route continuity, guarding or maintainability.
Project record: P1714 / WXT1A. Scope evidenced by the Rev E RAMS and the further-access proposal.
