GRP material properties · Technical reference
Read the material.
Review the system.
Generic polyester GRP data, with the context needed for a useful engineering discussion.
Explore the data ↓Use the data in context
These tables retain the generic polyester GRP values, units and ASTM references published in Vital’s existing material-properties resource. They provide a starting point for a technical discussion. They do not identify the design resistance of every grating panel, profile, fixing or installed access system.
- Identify the product.
Match the resin system, reinforcement, manufacturing route and exact section to its current data. - Read the direction.
Keep LW, CW and PF designations with the value; do not interchange directional results. - Retain the test basis.
Record the test reference, units, specimen type and applicable report revision. - Review the assembly.
Resolve spans, supports, restraint, connections and service conditions together.
Coupon results and full-section results are presented separately in the source. ASTM references are reproduced as source references, rather than a statement that the latest edition has been verified for a particular supplied product.
Mechanical properties
Compare the property, direction, test method and units together. A strength value alone does not establish the allowable load on a platform or profile.

Physical properties
Use environmental information alongside the intended resin system and service conditions. Confirm the relevance of the test conditions to the temperature, moisture and chemical exposure on the project.
| Physical property | ASTM Test | Units | Polyester |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barcol Hardness1 | D2583 | – | 45 |
| Water Absorption | D570 | % Max | 0.6 |
| Density | D792 | lb/in3 | 0.060–0.070 |

| Thermal Conductivity (PF) | C177 | BTU-in/ft2/hr/°F | 4.0 |
Electrical properties
Material test results do not establish an electrical isolation rating for an installed assembly. Review the product, joints, metallic components, exposure and required application-specific evidence together.
| Electrical property | ASTM Test | Units | Polyester |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arc Resistance (LW) | D495 | seconds | 120 |
| Dielectric Strength (LW) | D149 | KV/in | 40 |

Source document and definitions
Source: VGRP-DS-07 — Generic Material Properties, retained from Vital’s existing technical data sheet. Numerical values and original units are reproduced without conversion.
The source uses LW, CW and PF directional abbreviations and superscript references 1, 2 and 4. The embedded web table does not provide their complete definitions and footnotes. Obtain the complete applicable manufacturer data and confirm those references before using a value in a design calculation.

When asking for current project information, include the product or profile reference so the technical team can identify the appropriate data sheet and supporting report. The PDF link is the existing source document; it is not a project approval.
Turn material data into a project decision
Start with the working task and load case. Add the clear span, support and connection arrangement, deflection requirement and operating environment. Record unknowns rather than substituting a generic material figure.
Use the load and span guidance for the information needed to review flooring. For a complete access arrangement, the platforms and walkways page connects the deck to the frame, guarding and supporting asset.
Send drawings, the proposed product reference and the source of any specified values with your enquiry. That gives Vital a clear basis for identifying the next technical check and the evidence required.
Get the data for your application.
Send the product reference, drawings and service conditions.
